The Man's Coat.

So I discussed summer clothes when it was freezing out side just to get me through the winter, so now I'm looking for a winter coat because I'm fed up with what England calls summer. Personally I like the big, mannish coats, baggy with sloping shoulders, there is one in Topshop Boutique that looks pretty perfect to me. I'm not one to religiously follow any trends directly from the catwalk but I suppose it all filters its way down and influences what you buy as the shops I would most likely buy my coat from are imitating these trends in their own forms (I'm halfway through my September issue of Vogue and the whole oversized coats have been mentioned regularly) Not being girly girls me and my friends have heard all the jokes about us dressing like men! In my opinion oversized on a girl is perfect in proportions a big jacket or blazer with skinny trousers or jeans, and like I mentioned in my previous post, skirts or shorts with big jumpers, it defiantly balances out anything remotely feminine. I find Topshop boutique perfect in many ways, the colour palette is generally neutral with the odd splash of bright bold colours, always very simplistic and good quality material-they seem to use a lot of silk, usually in the form of silk dresses, slouchy t-shirts, loose tailoring and textured knits. Also the fit and the cut of the clothes seem to always be on the bigger side of the fit perfectly guide. 'Designed to create the ultimate capsule wardrobe, Boutique is the insiders first stop for directional pieces and premium essentials. These are separates to fall in love with, mix in your very own way and wear for years to come.' Topshop Boutique-Oversize mans blazer in khaki wool cashmere:

The Perfect T-shirt and Shoes.

The Boy Jumper.

As I've said before when buying clothes its either my friends saying 'imagine it with jeans shorts' or my mum saying the usual 'imagine that with a white shirt' there is another one which we all say 'imagine that with a big thick jumper.' Not the most girly dresser in the world, if I do wear anything remotely feminine especially when it comes to a skirt or short shorts where possible, more here as opposed to somewhere rather hot, I would always want to wear them with a big jumper. I love big thick knitted jumpers, obviously in the winter but also when bearable in the summer as well, I love them with bikini bottoms when the sun has gone down on the beach, or just indoors and even out dressed up with a skirt or leather trousers or just simply on their own with boots. They're even better when they're big, men sizes, I found a few on the Topshop website, Boutique section, I love the colours they do in this range and how simple they are and the knit they use. I suppose as the summer is nearly over they are going to be worn in the right way and for their purpose of keeping me warm, so no comments asking why have I got that on in this heat?!
And this is me, wearing a skirt but feeling more comfortable pairing it with a big jumper, and also roll necks, I love them on any occasion, smart, casual, going out, in the day with jeans, any colour, fitted or a bigger fit, always making an outifit look smart.

Out of This World.

I don't know a great deal about haute couture, I came across Givenchy 2010/11 collection and the pieces are literally breath taking, there isn't even any need for words to describe these dresses, I cant even imagine trying one on!

The Selby.

I received an email from my boyfriend saying that I would like this...it was a link to The Selby, it took me straight to a photo of Erin Wasson so I presumed as he knows I love her it was the photo I would love, then I read the about section and loved the whole concept of the website. Todd Selby is a portrait, interiors and fashion photographer and illustrator. His project The Selby offers an insiders view of creative individuals in their personal spaces with an artists eye for detail. The Selby began in June 2008 as a website, where Todd posted photo shoots he did of his friends in their homes. Requests quickly began coming in daily from viewers all over the world who wanted their homes to be featured on the site. The Selby's website became so influential with up to 95,000 unique visitors daily that within months, top companies from around the world began asking to collaborate. It amazes me how small personal projects just like this explode on the internet becoming recognised by thousands, these joint projects have included Nike, Louis Vuitton and Hennessy, a solo show at colette, an international ad campaign for Habitat and work for New York Times T magazine and Vogue. I think its so encouraging that people can start out on their own small little projects and by pass the process of shouting from the rooftops for the ideas and work to be seen or heard from the top companies, now we are at a stage where these companies are actively recognising this talent and reaching out to these people themselves, I think its brilliant when bloggers are given coverage in magazines, it seems a much more natural and free environment for creative people to collaborate eliminating the disappointment of not getting a certain job, instead they are being reached out to by these publications. This has now led Todd to be able to release his first book, The Selby is In Your Place and has recently launched Edible Selby in collaboration with NYTimes T Magazine in which he photographs the most creative and interesting people in food around the world. Todd's journey leading to his successful website was an interesting one, before working full time on this project he worked as a translator and Tijuana tour guide to the International Brotherhood of Machinists, a researcher into the California strawberry industry, a Costa Rican cartographer, a consultant on political corruption to a Mexican Senator, an art director at a venture capital firm, an exotic flower wholesaler, a Japanese clothing designer and a vermicomposting entrepreneur.....
