Stop It Right Now.

There are some blogs I look at and think my blog is doing ok (minus the lack of personal photos) in comparison, but then there are some blogs I start looking through and mine seem a million miles away. You have to visit this girls blog to appreciate her style fully. Here.

And the things she picks out....
The Jenni Kayne slippers were one of my first ever posts I wrote, and funnily enough I was looking online on the website at them the other day, she's persuaded me even more to part with my money.

Red Leather.

OK, just questioning myself out loud. Would you ever wear red? No, never. Red leather? erm no definitely not. And then I've gone and bought a pair of red leather trousers, makes sense I know. But as much as I picture red leather looking distastefully cheap I then remembered the editorial of Kate in Vogue, the one where she's sitting down with a pair of red leather trousers and a leopard print coat, yes even saying it sounds vile and in cheaper versions I'm sure it would look just that, but then you have Kate wear it and the pieces being the most expensive versions and it just looks like that ('that' referring to the way she just makes anything look beautiful but unkempt.) Unkempt being the reason I think they look so nice on some people, a neat look with red leather trousers would take it back to all the negative connotations you would associate with this particular item of clothing. Its something that could not be anymore on the border or completely tacky and cheap and so different, rocky/messy/ kind of beautiful.

Grace.

I know that every now and then there is that 'it book' that everyone who's anyone claiming they have an interest in fashion should have read or be reading, and Grace is having its moment. My brother bought it for me for Christmas and out of all if the books I received I've just started this one, avoiding all of the reviews on other blogs allowing me to make up my own mind about the book and of Grace herself. Typically I know her from her appearance in The September Issue not one to visually miss with her bright red mane but also due to being a stand out opinionated character. And then it was all confirmed in the first chapter, Grace never ever wanted to be filmed or fall into the 'celebrity' spotlight, which I like about her, she is a true talent in her workplace and working for Vogue there is no need for any pr working behind the scenes in fashion your work stands alone and speaks for itself, granted people are intrigued by who the person is behind the work but ultimately not knowing creates more of a mystery. I presumed that the Grace featuring in the documentary was her not hiding anything about her personality and just generally getting on with her job whilst ignoring the camera's (as hard as that may be) but as I read the first chapter she explained that she made it perfectly clear to Anna (yes of course she was on first name terms, they have worked together for more than twenty years) that she did not want anything to do with the film crew she avoided the camera whenever she spotted it and vocally made her opinion clear that she did not want to be filmed she was more interested in completing her normal job as hard as that was without the interference of a film crew. Eventually, she had to give in, and that is why we see Grace as such a fiery opinionated character she wanted to say the worse hoping that her bits would be cut and not make it to the final edit, however that some what back fired and she played a main character in the feature film due to I presume her behavior and how it gave an insight to behind the scenes and living up to the stereotypes of what it is like working for a magazine. I love people that are passionate about their work, something which just reading the first chapter you would gather form Grace without knowing anything else about her, and another thing the fact that you are at the top in your working position and want to avoid public recognition of all types instead your hard work being ernt gracefully from what is produced. She describes her surprise, 'here I am doing something I never imagined I'd be old or interesting enough to embark on: writing my memoirs.' She also mentions her first experiences of being recognised due to the success of the documentary, Grace was out having dinner with Nicolas Ghesquiere (as you do) and he asked if it was true hat people recognise her wherever she goes? She suggested he walk home with her....people began popping out of bars and restaurants 'Grace. Its Grace!' And that is the ending of the first chapter, just a snippet of her life and already I cant wait to find out more, 'interesting enough to write a memoir?' Well of course.

Fashion Food.

Food and fashion are polar opposites aren't they? Well that's where I go wrong, I'm obsessed with both. I loved looking through all these little bits that you could have when people pop round.
The sandwich cake is my favourite.

Winter Version.

I love strings round the ankle on the beach, and now I think I have a version for the winter, a delicate chain around your trousers.

The Twin-Set.

Twin sets. When you hear this I'm sure, like me, you don't imagine anything remotely youngish, classic maybe, neat, elegant well something along those lines, and even the actual individual pieces presumably its a thin jumper, round neck of course with a matching cardigan strategically placed over the top. Nothing tempting and definitely nothing that would be on a list of things you HAVE to buy. Now I could of got this completely wrong here, but after seeing the Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2013 collection the one outfit that jumped out to me was the beigey/nudey (everyone one has their own word for this colour) jumper with the cardigan over the top. I know one reason why, its that material (well from the image it looks like it could be, I may be wrong) I am growing a strong obsession with (yes please inform me of the correct name) for now I'll call it scuba? You know the thick stuff that is as stiff as a board and has a thick texture, almost spongy? I have one top made of this from Zara and its true what they say it has the ability to keep you warm in the cold and cooler in the heat, so for once I've bought into practicality also. So back to the twin set, I have never been one to wear bright, garish colours, sticking to black all week and if I feel like pushing the boundaries it could drift to navy, grey, white all being the usual suspects of a confident moment. As well as confining the colours in my wardrobe the actual clothes themselves are nothing very different from the standard staple pieces seen in everyone's wardrobe, so a beige twin-set would fit perfectly into that outrageous wardrobe of mine. Another thing that I like about this pairing is that they're matching colours, I remember my nan always had a set on and when it was my mum in charge of buying them as a present they would always be matching in colour. I believe in if your taking things from years past bring them back in all their glory don't mess with something that was so classic they are popping up now in 2013. So on that note I would love a pair similar to Phillip Lim (just not the price) and I know I sound like a hypocrite but I'll take it for everything it is but I'll just call it a jumper and a cardigan thank you.

The Mermaid.

Mermaid. A legendary aquatic creature with the upper body of a woman and the tail of a fish. There is just something about these mythical creatures that I love, plus the stranded naturally beautiful beaches and rocks we imagine they would be perched upon if they were in fact real. Although I am not hugely into photography I recently visited the Tim Walker exhibition and as much as I can appreciate styling I love this lady's work, fantasy ideas captured in one click fascinates me also, it makes me look, then look again, then look once more to try and notice all of the small details as well as trying to envision how the photographer has put together a whole fantasy world into one photograph. Now who am I to analyse a talented photographers work, with the lack of technical knowledge and incorrect adjectives in terms of photography, but sometimes I think opinions from outsiders are just as valid if not even more insightful. Take me for example, I'm sure that if a professional jewellery designer analysed some of the pieces I have made their flaws would be highlighted and pulled apart whereas someone with less knowledge would take a completely different approach with a different view of an opinion. I found this editorial on this blog, which always includes the best of the best I feel, and although these photos didn't run completely with a mermaid feel it was there subtly, she was just more of a rebel mermaid if ever there was one.
